How we choose the sites on this page

A site only appears here if it holds an active Gambling Commission licence covering online betting. After that, we look at six things, explained in full on our methodology page:

What to check before you sign up

1. The licence

Look for the Gambling Commission licence number in the site footer and check it on the public register. The register also lists the domains each licensee is allowed to operate. A site that is not licensed in Great Britain offers you no UK protections — no requirement to protect your funds, no approved dispute service and no link to GAMSTOP.

2. The significant terms of the offer

UK advertising rules require the key conditions of an offer to be shown next to it. Read them, in particular:

3. Withdrawals and verification

You will need to verify your identity before you can bet, and operators may ask for more documents before a large withdrawal. Withdrawals usually go back to the method you deposited with. Check the minimum withdrawal and any processing time before you deposit.

4. Safer gambling tools

Every licensed site must let you set deposit limits, take a break and self-exclude. A good site makes these easy to find in your account settings rather than hiding them.

UK bonus rules in 2026

Since 19 January 2026, Gambling Commission rules limit wagering requirements on bonuses to a maximum of ten times, and operators can no longer offer promotions that require you to use more than one product — for example, betting on sport and playing slots — to qualify. If you see an offer for Great Britain that breaks either rule, treat it as a warning sign.

Types of UK betting sites

Payment methods

UK sites accept debit cards and usually a mix of PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer. Credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Great Britain. When choosing a method, check two things: whether it qualifies for the welcome offer, and whether it can also be used for withdrawals.

Free betting tools

Work out what a multiple bet would pay before you place it with our bet calculator, or use the dedicated Lucky 15 calculator. For offers in one place, see free bets and sign-up offers.

18+ only. Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. Set a deposit limit before you start, and if it stops being fun use the operator's time-out tools or GAMSTOP. Free, confidential help: GamCare · 0808 8020 133.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK betting sites are legal?

Only operators holding a licence from the Gambling Commission of Great Britain may offer betting to people in Great Britain. You can check any operator by its licence number on the Commission’s public register. Every site on this page links to its register entry.

Can I use a credit card at UK betting sites?

No. Gambling with a credit card has been banned in Great Britain since 14 April 2020. Licensed sites accept debit cards and usually e-wallets such as PayPal or Apple Pay, although some e-wallets are excluded from welcome offers.

Why do betting sites ask for ID?

Licensed operators must verify your age and identity before you can deposit or gamble. Have your ID and proof of address ready; verification is also often required again before a withdrawal.

Are welcome offers really free?

Most sign-up offers require you to deposit and place a qualifying bet with your own money first. Free bet stakes are normally not returned with winnings. Always read the significant terms shown next to each offer before you sign up.

What changed for bonuses in 2026?

From 19 January 2026, Gambling Commission rules cap wagering requirements on bonuses at 10 times and ban offers that require you to play more than one type of product (for example, betting and slots) to unlock a bonus.

How do I complain about a betting site?

Complain to the operator first using its complaints procedure. If it is not resolved within eight weeks, you can take it to the operator’s approved alternative dispute resolution provider, such as IBAS, which is free for customers.
